It’s now the middle of summer and most of us just want to stay cool. We also still want to be fashionable. I am loving light slip-on frocks and long flowy dresses to keep your legs warm when the sun goes down (on the west coast). When you slip them on, you immediately feel chic, and i feel taller . I also love wearing colorful bathing suits and cute cover-ups. Nothing beats heading to the beach when you feel good about yourself, strolling in with a pretty cover-up and cute straw hat. I know a lot of us don’t feel 100% secure wearing a bathing suit but take a tip from the Europeans- just ENJOY! I will never forget being in San Sebastian, Spain and seeing everyone in the ocean- mothers, grandmothers, great aunts- the whole family was taking part in enjoying each other and life. No one was worried about their bodies, hair, or anything superficial. They were more interested in being with their kids, grandchildren and friends. Just watching them feel so confident and carefree was inspiring , and i have never seen anything more beautiful. Their inner confidence radiating outward made all the difference and it always will, especially as our bodies change and age. Embrace yourself and the body that you were given. You are stunning! xx

I still feel like i have much to share about fashion, style, and traveling. First, before you go, the most important thing is finding out the weather and the lifestyle. You want to always dress to fit into the different mediums that you visit- whether it be someones house for dinner, an event, or a different country. That said, your wardrobe should be able to adapt to your needs. Bali was an island that is very casual, and always on Bali time, which is its own lifestyle altogether I brought one pair of wedges (ok, two but only wore one!) and that was all i needed. Flats and easy, light pieces were key. Also, colors are great as a friend once showed me, because when you get the your pictures back, certain clothing just looks beautiful against natural muted backgrounds.

-wearing a long bright flower dress against the natural color and texture of ocean rock..always with a flower in my hair

- greens and pink floral in a painted elephant cave doorway

Elegant gray dress in soft texture cotton for dinner on the beach

an opportunity to wear island colored vintage!

One more thing to remember- when you are away- buy what the island is known for- beautiful sarongs, scarves, dresses, hand-woven shoes….these special items will forever remind you of a beautiful time in a wonderful place. Enjoy!

Going to Bali was a dream, packing for it was not. Thankfully, i had lots of versatile items for the trip, and by versatile, i mean remembering its always 80-90 degrees with 90% humidity. My hair- not so much. My boyfriend nicknamed me “curly.” But the clothes and packing- i did well! Here is a simple tee shirt dress- in a color (not black!) when you are going to a sunny location. It was fitted so you could pair with a wedge for night or wear with an edgy, understated flat as i did. (We were just going for ribs and margaritas.) It can also be worn as a bathing suit cover-up.

At the Ubud market, you just want to be cool- as in temperature- but that doesnt mean sacrificing your pictures or looking cute. I wore a light vintage strapless dress with tiny colored flowers and white cotton lace trim. It also was nice that the colors in the photo are from the Balinese experience and not about me.

On our dressiest night out which is pretty casual in Bali, since all the restaurants are exquisitely designed with no windows, tables outside in gardens, ganeshs’ running free, and a straw roof, I wore a pale pink strapless with ruffle detail in the front, my louboutins- there are wedges after all!- and a chunky necklaces made of light colored stones. Another thing to remember- i packed totally different jewelry for my trip than my usual day to day. This is the time that all your beautiful colored stones, shells, and island inspired items comes in handy- and actually looks right with all your little dresses. I didnt bring one peice that i would wear in an urban city- and i was loving every piece in their element!

I have to give props to my boyfriend, Zach- casual tee, linen striped pants and sneaks- yet still looking effortlessly chic.

I am in Bali right now and loving going on vacation. Light dresses,( ok, so partly because of the heat!), sandals, tanned skin (SPF a must!), and living out of a suitcase. I really think we all could style ourselves with 2 weeks of clothes for at least a month, if not more. There are so many different ways to put together outfits, and to look different, that we dont need all that we have. Shopping is fun, i have to admit, but i do love not having the stress of my closet sometimes. I only have limited items to chose from, so i have to make do. I admit this doesn’t work sometimes when i am in a pinch and you wish you had your closet to pick the perfect accessory or dress but hey, improvise! Buy a local necklace, hat, or something that makes you feel good because you bought it on your trip, in the moment. Find your inner stylist! In these moments, a tan is your #1 accessory, and a local fresh flower is #2. Thats all you need- oh, and a sexy bikini or 12…..yes, i know, i had a weakness this time around and bikinis were it!

Loving everyone embracing summer even though its still cold out. A spring dress with a cardigan or cool leather jacket still says, “i am ready for Spring!” but will keep you warm. I am also happy that my clients are so open in trying new things- like skinny jeans, accessories, and even cool Margiela pants for my cute male client. He is going to look so “StyleChic” at a charity event we dressed him for. Fashion is about being who you are but taking a chance on something new. It’s fun to learn about another side of you and your fashion sense, and to go back to work with all your new clothes. One client was ready to give a fashion show to all her co-workers! I love it and I am lucky to work with all of our clients.

COLOR, COLOR, COLOR

You know I always love color and encourage everyone to add to your wardrobe for a plethora of reasons. Designers raided the crayon box this season- cobalt blue is everywhere, ravishing reds, chartreuse, coral, fuchsia, i love it all! if you MUST move slowly on this- buy sandals, a clutch, or accesories in a hot hue.

GET THE 70′S LOOK: Ruffled dresses, cork heels, floppy hats, glittery gold accessories, wide-leg jeans…get shopping!

Why it works: Fluid lines and billowy fabrics cinch at your most flattering points, adding a sexy girl-next-door vibe for an upgraded flower child look.

WHITE DRESSES

I love this season’s romantic little white dress- a touch of lace will embrace your femininity, and I always like long billowing frocks to feel elegant yet earthy.

Boho brings out ethnic patterns in great summer colors to add to your look.

STRIPES NOW!

Stripes are all the rage- don’t be afraid to mix and match.

COLOR-BLOCKING

Don’t hold back vivid tones and mix textures. I just got an amazing high-waisted skirt with coral silk, tan burlap, and a black leather waist detail. Insane! Color block contrasting shades that will add color and next season can be worn as separates.

Why it works: The pure geometry of the solid shapes creates an incredible visual that can also be used to camouflage problem areas while calling attention to one’s best body parts.

SKIRTS ARE BACK!

Full or floor sweeping skirts- make it all about this style and wear with a plain tank or tee. If you are petite, like me, pull your skirt up high and make it a high-waisted to show off your legs and look taller!

Navy and white- Azure is still going strong and make it springtime by pairing it with white- uber fresh.

Neutral Chic

Neutrals are still beautiful- nude, beige, pale pinks- i still adore that perfect blush color. Pair with deep berry brights for some edge. I love the look of nude patent wedges. they go with everything and elongate the leg.

I am loving the structural, crisp designs and modern lines of this season. Dont worry, when you’re in the mood, slouchy works just as well.

WHITE is the new black

I just bought the perfect white bag for spring- minimally structured and divine.

Why it works: Rocking an all-white outfit is both fearless and chic. Practically speaking, it’s also a traditional spring color — white reflects light, which literally gives you a glow, keeps you cool, and complements almost every skin tone.

Metallic flats go with everything from jeans to bikini to a white dress.

I’m still loving throwing a tuxedo jacket or blazer over a floral party dress for chic contrast.

STATEMENT JEWELRY

Still going strong. Statement necklaces just got bigger and bolder this season with huge stones and funky designs. A mix of metals like bronze, silver and gold will be the highlight this season. Choose a statement necklace or bib necklace whose design is inspired by African tribes to make the maximum impact

How fun was it to go to indian Wells tennis tournament, all dressed up in my Sunday best, for this fun, outside event in the desert? Remember when everyone would dress up for events, occasions or even a night out on the town? I loved how people wanted to look good, feel stylish and dress for the occasion. Those long gloves, dapper hats, beautiful dresses- total Mad Men style. Sometimes its fun to make a day/night of it and feel good from the outside in. I notice people walk differently, exude confidence and are generally happier when they feel good about themselves and play dress up. Plus everyone around you is nicer too- meaning we get more special treatment- like front row to see Federer!

I went to the Parker Palm Springs last weekend – one of my favorite getaway spots- with my favorite stylish companion and we were noticing the ladies at the pool. Please tell me why women think its necessary to wear 5 inch heels with bathing suits. It doesn’t make you look any skinner, taller or elegant and tripping over the kids swimmies (also known as water wings or floaties) isn’t the most graceful either. Lets just keep looking au natural at the beach, pool, or any other place that requires a swim suit. I swear you will still look cute without the full make up, accessories, and hair done. Messy beach waves, braids, cute sandals or flip flops and a colorful cover up is the way to go. StyleChic promise

Yesterday was a great day because within 2 hours, we found a client something to wear to her husband’s business event at the Beverly Hilton- yes i know, it already screams, “corporate function= no style.” She wanted to be appropriate but still look stylish and chic. I found a brand new DVF dress that wasn’t black, (phew!), was very chic and still made her feel like herself while staying true to the “business attire” dress code. We paired it with an incredible spring coat to make the look even more appropriate for everyone else who hadn’t hired StyleChic but to us, it looked even more avant garde. To see a client smile at herself in the mirror with all the confidence in the world is a sight i will never tire of. So excited for pictures from the event!
